For this assignment, we were given an article and an artist. Our objective was to create an illustration that was related to the contents of the article and to use the style of the artist we were given. My article talked about "quiet quitting" and the reasons why workers are feeling burned out at work, causing them to do the bare minimum at their jobs. The artist I got was Edel Rodriguez, who has a variety of styles and methods in his art. I chose to emulate the powerful colors and screen-print-like textures in his work. My illustration represents the
anxiety and suffocation a worker may feel, which may cause them to participate in quiet quitting. The dark and dramatic colors of the illustration communicate a worker's desperation as they're
drowning in the morning coffee that they can no longer go to work without. The mug has the words “employee of the month” written on it to communicate the irony between the disconnected relationship between the boss and the overwhelmed employee.
