Won Honorable Mention in Graphis New Talent 2023
For this assignment, I was tasked with creating a typographic poster to visually convey the emotional impact of a song. I was assigned "Tonight Tonight" by the Smashing Pumpkins. The song evokes feelings of uncertainty, the desire to believe in oneself, and the urgency to find light in the darkness. The repetition of words like "tonight" and "believe" emphasizes this message. I experimented with various visual representations of light, including creating my own typeface and manipulating text to mimic the song's repetition. Additionally, I played around with glow in the dark stars, forming them into lyrics and enhancing their glow for a luminous effect. However, I ultimately decided to use a bold typeface called "Dazzle Unicase," arranged in a staggered composition with glowy effects to make it pop. The background texture features street and car lights, captured in a photo I took, reflecting the song's themes of melancholy and hope. Through warm tones, contrast, and bold typography, I aimed to convey the song's message of change, uncertainty, and the power to pursue one's dreams.
